Business Consulting that gets to the point

We help owner-managed businesses in Scotland and the wider UK sort out the problems that keep them stuck: unclear financials, messy operations, growth that feels risky instead of exciting.

What we actually do

Most of our clients run businesses with five to eighty staff. They know their trade inside out but need a second pair of eyes on the commercial side. Here are the four areas where we spend most of our time.

Financial clarity

We rebuild your management accounts so you can see profit by product line, by customer, by month. No more guessing which parts of the business earn their keep. A typical rebuild takes four to six weeks, and we train your bookkeeper to maintain it going forward.

Operations review

Where does time disappear? We map your core workflows, time the bottlenecks, and propose changes you can implement within a quarter. One distribution client cut order-processing time from 48 hours to 14 after we reorganised their warehouse pick sequence.

Growth planning

Before you hire, borrow, or open a new location, we stress-test the numbers. Our rolling 12-month cashflow model shows you exactly how much runway you need and when the new revenue should cover the investment. We update it monthly until the project breaks even.

Leadership support

Running a company can feel isolating. Our advisory sessions give you a structured space to think out loud with someone who has sat in similar seats. We meet fortnightly, either at your premises or over video, for 90 minutes at a time.

A bit about us

Apex Business Advisors started in 2016 when our founder left a finance director role at a mid-sized logistics firm and realised that dozens of smaller companies nearby needed the same kind of thinking but couldn't justify a full-time FD.

Eight years later, the team has grown to six consultants. Between us we've worked in manufacturing, professional services, hospitality, e-commerce and construction. That range matters because good ideas travel across sectors. A scheduling technique from a hotel kitchen solved a production-planning headache for a joinery workshop last year.

We are based in Great Dooleybury, Scotland, and most of our clients are within two hours' drive, though we also work remotely with businesses across England and Wales. If a project needs us on-site, we come to you, usually one or two days a week during the intensive phase.

What clients say

"They spotted a pricing error in our wholesale channel that was costing us £4,200 a month. Fixed within a week."

Rachel Dunbar, managing director, Forth Valley Foods

"I'd been putting off the cashflow model for two years. Apex built it in three weeks and now I actually look at it every Monday morning."

Colin Hay, owner, Hay Engineering Ltd

"The fortnightly sessions keep me honest. I set targets, they hold me to them. Simple, but it works."

Nadia Iqbal, founder, Gloss & Grain Interiors
